Islamabad: Albert Khorev, Russia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, has said that Moscow is ready to supply concessional oil to Islamabad, urging the government to formally engage and benefit from the offer.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, Khorev stated that Russia is willing to proceed with discounted oil exports once Pakistan initiates official contact. He noted that, so far, no formal approach has been made by Islamabad in this regard.

The ambassador emphasized that the energy sector remains a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Pakistan, adding that meaningful progress depends on proactive engagement from the Pakistani side.

Pakistan, like many economies worldwide, is facing mounting pressure from rising fuel prices as escalating tensions in the Middle East disrupt global supply chains.

Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global oil transport, has reportedly stalled after Iran blocked the route in response to joint military actions by the United States and Israel.

Amid the disruption, Pakistan has increased petrol and diesel prices by around 20 percent. Federal ministers have described the hike as temporary, assuring the public that prices will be reduced once the situation stabilizes.

Commenting on regional developments, Khorev said Iran’s retaliatory actions were directed at US military installations in Gulf waters but refrained from further elaboration due to the evolving nature of the crisis.

He also remarked that the global community has been surprised by the military decisions of Donald Trump, describing the situation as “complex and unpredictable,” with no clear timeline for de-escalation.

The Russian envoy condemned a recent attack on a girls’ school in Iran that reportedly killed 170 children, calling the incident “extremely tragic” and urging restraint from all sides.

Khorev called on all parties to avoid further escalation and resolve disputes through political and diplomatic channels in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter.

He further criticized the actions of the United States and Israel, stating that the use of force against Iran has intensified the crisis and risks deepening divisions within the Muslim world while undermining regional stability.
