Risk of flooding, land-sliding                                                                          Weather experts urge authorities to take precautionary measures to prevent losses

ISLAMABAD:  The climate change experts have urged the relevant authority to take precautionary measures in view of the upcoming monsoon rainfall expected to start from June 30 that may trigger landslides in hilly regions and urban flooding in the vulnerable parts of the country.

However, the experts have also expressed hope that the expected monsoon rainfall would help subside the prevailing extremely hot weather conditions in the country by decreasing temperatures as well as be beneficial for the sowing of rice crops.

According to the Met Office, the rain will be a result of moist currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal entering the upper parts of the country from Wednesday which may intensify and expand to southern parts of the country by the end of this week.

Rain-windstorm/thundershower with chances of isolated heavy falls is expected in Islamabad, parts of KP, Punjab, AJK and G-B from June 30 to July 04 while Rain-windstorm with isolated heavy falls is expected in parts of Sindh and Balochistan from July 1 to July 5.

Meanwhile, the heavy falls may generate urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Faisalabad from July 2 to July 4 in Karachi and Hyderabad from July 3-5. Flash flooding is also expected in local drains of Kashmir, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Naseerabad, Awaran, Barkhan and Kohlu during the forecast period.

The fishermen have been advised to remain careful due to rough sea conditions from July 3 to July 5.

Heavy rainfall will help subside rising temperatures however may trigger landslides in Kashmir, Galliyat and Murree. Windstorms may damage loose structures at vulnerable locations.

Travelers and tourists are advised to remain extra cautious during the forecast period while all the concerned authorities are advised to remain alert during the forecast period.
