Islamabad: As Ramadan approaches, Pakistanis are gearing up for the annual tradition of indulging in hearty iftar and sehr meals, but health experts are urging a shift towards more balanced eating. Despite the month’s focus on self-discipline, food choices often lean toward deep-fried snacks and sugary drinks, leading to energy crashes and sluggishness.

Experts suggest that instead of greasy parathas and endless cups of chai for Sehr, opting for protein-rich foods like eggs, yogurt, and lentils can provide long-lasting energy. Similarly, breaking the fast with dates and lean protein, instead of overindulging in fried snacks, can help maintain steady energy levels throughout the evening.

Hydration is another crucial factor; rather than guzzling water in bulk, drinking gradually between iftar and sehr is recommended to stay hydrated. Experts also highlight the importance of balancing meals with proteins, healthy fats, and carbohydrates to prevent muscle breakdown during fasting.

Drawing inspiration from the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) simple, balanced meals, experts suggest that mindful eating is key to maintaining good health during Ramadan.

With the growing awareness of nutrition, initiatives like Right to Protein are encouraging healthier eating habits. This Ramadan, it’s time to rethink our food choices and embrace a more sustainable approach to fasting.
