Islamabad: Amid a surge in unauthorized sales of LPG and petrol in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, residents are calling for immediate action, citing significant safety risks.

These unregulated practices, especially in densely populated areas such as Bari Imam, Golra, and Koral, have raised concerns over potential accidents due to a lack of safety protocols.

Local residents, including Naeem Ahmad, emphasized the risk, noting that with the approaching winter and anticipated sui gas shortages, people are forced to refill gas cylinders through unsafe means.

He warned that if left unchecked, the unregulated trade could lead to serious incidents. Amjad Abbas, another resident, highlighted that some vendors are openly refilling cylinders for vehicles like mini-rickshaws without following any safety guidelines.

Responding to the concerns, the district administration recently reported that Assistant Commissioner (AC) Nillore Uzair Ali Khan led a raid on two illegal LPG filling centers, confiscating equipment and impounding vehicles, which were then transferred to the police for further action. Additionally, two unauthorized petrol agencies were shut down, with dispensing machines seized.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon has directed officials to intensify efforts against illegal fuel vendors, underscoring the administration’s commitment to public safety and enforcement of fuel regulations.
