Rescue 1122, police on high alert amid light snowfall in Murree

Rawalpindi: Rescue 1122 and police authorities remained on high alert in Murree on Monday amid ongoing light snowfall and forecasts of more snow over the next 24 hours.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), intermittent light snowfall and cold conditions are expected in Murree and adjoining areas during the next day.

On the directives of District Emergency Officer (DEO) Engineer Kamran Rashid, Rescue 1122 finalized contingency arrangements across the district. All rescue stations, along with ambulances, motorcycles, fire and recovery vehicles, were placed on field alert, a Rescue 1122 spokesman said.

Special rescue squads were deployed at key tourist locations in anticipation of a large influx of visitors to ensure timely assistance in case of snowfall, slippery roads or traffic disruptions.

Additional staff were also deployed, while the Rescue 1122 control room was kept operational round the clock for prompt response to emergencies.

Meanwhile, District Police Officer (DPO) Murree, Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer, said that despite the entry of more than 23,000 vehicles into the hill station during the past 36 hours, traffic flow remained smooth due to an effective traffic management strategy.

He said light snowfall began at around 2:15pm and continued until 3:45pm, covering key tourist spots including Mall Road, Kashmir Point and Barian.

Police and district administration teams promptly managed traffic on all major routes, with check posts remaining active and tourists guided to safe locations.

According to police figures, a total of 23,114 vehicles entered Murree in the last 24 hours, while 15,143 exited, leaving 7,971 vehicles within the district. Of these, 12,777 entered the district and 7,242 the city area.

The DPO said all police officers, traffic wardens and rescue teams remained alert across the district, adding that no untoward incident was reported and the overall situation remained under control.

He said the timely actions of the district administration and police were appreciated by both citizens and tourists.
