Rescue 1122 Issues Weather Advisory in Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit: Rescue 1122, in coordination with the district administration, has issued a weather safety advisory due to severe cold and heavy snowfall in various parts of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Authorities said harsh weather conditions are expected to persist and urged residents to remain vigilant and strictly follow safety guidelines to prevent loss of life and property.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather. Those who must travel have been urged to exercise extreme caution, particularly on snow-covered roads.

Drivers have been instructed to reduce speed, avoid sudden braking and sharp turns, and ensure vehicles are properly checked before travel, including heaters, brakes, wipers, and antifreeze systems.

Tourists have been advised to check weather forecasts before planning travel and to carry snow chains when heading to areas affected by snowfall.

Rescue 1122 also directed transporters to avoid overloading vehicles and urged passengers to carry warm clothing and a first-aid kit during travel.

The advisory emphasized heating safety, urging hotel and guest house owners to ensure gas heaters are switched off while guests are asleep. At home, residents were advised to use heating appliances with caution, keep gas cylinders outside living areas, and maintain a safe distance between heaters and flammable materials.

People were also warned against overloading electrical sockets and advised to regularly inspect wiring to prevent short circuits and fire hazards.

 

Rescue 1122 appealed to the public to immediately contact emergency services in case of any untoward incident.
