RCCI Urges FBR to Extend Deadline for Annual Tax Filing
News Desk
Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has formally requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the deadline for submitting annual tax returns.
In a statement released on Sunday, Chamber President Saqib Rafiq highlighted the challenges faced by taxpayers due to the slow performance of the FBR’s Iris system, which has been overwhelmed by heavy filings.
Rafiq noted that the closure of banks and related institutions on Saturdays and Sundays has exacerbated difficulties for taxpayers in obtaining necessary bank statements and other relevant documents.
“Complaints regarding system glitches and slowness are being reported by our members and traders,” he said.
He also pointed out that a recent protest by a political party in Rawalpindi on Friday further complicated matters, making it more challenging for taxpayers to gather the documents required for filing their returns.
In light of these issues, Rafiq urged the FBR to consider extending the tax return filing deadline by one month to alleviate the burden on taxpayers.
