RCB Fined Rs 1.7m for Selling Substandard Food Items

Rawalpindi: The Control Cell of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) conducted random raids on Friday to inspect the quality of soft drinks being sold in the cantonment areas. During these raids, two soda manufacturing factories and 57 shops were sealed for selling substandard lemon water, and fines totaling Rs. 17.0 lakh were imposed on several shops.
CEO RCB Syed Ali Irfan took serious notice of reports regarding the sale of inferior soft drinks in the cantonment areas. Following his special instructions, food control teams conducted comprehensive raids across different areas of the cantonment. Samples collected from 17 lemon soda carts were sent to the laboratory for testing.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Public Health Officer, food inspectors and field teams raided a soda water factory in Gawalmandi, seized equipment and unhealthy soda water, and collected samples for laboratory testing. The teams also raided 17 lemon soda carts in Sadar, Bank Road, and Adamjee Road, with samples from these carts sent to the laboratory as well.
The RCB spokesman informed that the Food Control Cell had sealed 57 shops in June for selling unhealthy and substandard food items. A total of Rs. 17 lakh in fines were imposed on food establishments in various areas, including Misrial Road and Choohr Chowk.
CEO Syed Ali Irfan Rizvi emphasized the need to use all resources for continuous improvement in performance and ongoing inspections of food points, units, and factories. He stated that businesses violating the rules would be closed and fined, and cases would be filed against them.
