Rashid Khan Guilty of Breaching ICC Code of Conduct
News Desk
Islamabad: Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan has received an official reprimand for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Group 1 match against Bangladesh.
According to a press release, Rashid breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct by throwing a bat on the ground in a manner deemed inappropriate and potentially dangerous towards another player during the match’s final over.
As a result, one demerit point has been added to Rashid’s disciplinary record, marking his first offense within a 24-month period.
Rashid acknowledged the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, thereby avoiding the need for a formal hearing. The charge was leveled by on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Langton Rusere, with support from third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Ahsan Raza.
Level 1 breaches typically result in an official reprimand, with penalties potentially extending to a fine of up to 50 percent of a player’s match fee, alongside one or two demerit points.
