Rare ‘Headless Baby’ Successfully Removed from Child’s Chest

Rahim Yar Khan: Doctors at Sheikh Zayed Hospital have successfully removed a rare “headless baby” from the chest of a five-year-old child in a complex surgery.

The operation, performed on Monday by Dr. Sultan Owaisi, involved removing a mass medically known as fetus in fetu, located near the child’s main artery.

Dr. Owaisi said the mass had developed several organs over time but remained undiagnosed for five years. It contained a spine, hair, teeth, and other organs, with all parts present except the head, and weighed nearly one kilogram.

“Most cases of fetus in fetu are found in the abdomen, but this case was unique because the mass was located in the chest,” Dr. Owaisi added.

Medical experts have described the successful procedure as a remarkable milestone in pediatric medicine.
