Rains, Snowfall Break Drought but Disrupt Life in Hazara Division
News Desk
Abbottabad: Torrential rains and heavy snowfall have provided much-needed relief to the Hazara Division by ending a prolonged drought.
However, the severe weather has also brought significant disruptions, blocking roads, triggering landslides, and hampering daily life across the region.
According to officials, heavy rain and snowfall began last night, causing road blockages and flash floods that led to landslides in multiple areas.
The situation has posed serious transportation challenges, prompting authorities to launch extensive efforts to clear the roads and ensure public safety. Residents and travelers have been urged to exercise caution and stay informed about weather forecasts and road conditions.
In Galyat, continuous snowfall has caused major road closures, creating difficulties for both locals and tourists. However, teams from the Galyat Development Authority (GDA), Abbottabad Traffic Police, and other relevant departments have successfully cleared several key routes. Despite these efforts, light snowfall continues in the region, and authorities remain on high alert.
Abbottabad Traffic Police, along with other emergency response teams, have been deployed at various points to assist travelers and ensure smooth traffic flow.
District Emergency Officer Muhammad Arif Khattak has issued safety guidelines, advising people to ensure their vehicles are in proper mechanical condition, including checking tires, engines, and lights before embarking on journeys in hilly areas.
Travelers have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, exercise caution in landslide-prone zones, and refrain from parking in hazardous areas. Motorists are advised to maintain safe speeds, strictly adhere to traffic regulations, and carry extra food supplies and warm clothing due to harsh weather conditions.
Additionally, tourists have been instructed to avoid overtaking and random parking in mountainous regions. Those using vehicle heaters should keep windows slightly open for ventilation to prevent breathing issues, and it is recommended to carry tire chains while traveling to Galyat.
Rescue 1122 personnel have been stationed at critical points, including Chariyan, Nathia Gali, and Kala Bagh, to provide assistance to those in need. Authorities have urged locals and tourists to cooperate with rescue teams and seek help through the Rescue 1122 toll-free helpline at 1122 or 09929310560 in case of emergencies.
Officials have emphasized the importance of responsible travel and adherence to safety measures to minimize risks amid ongoing extreme weather conditions in the region.
