Rain with Thunder in Karachi from April 17 Night

Islamabad: A new series of westerly winds is expected to move into Southwest Balochistan starting tonight (Tuesday), leading to the possibility of thundershowers in Karachi from the night of April 17.

According to the latest advisory from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), another westerly wind is anticipated to affect Southwest Balochistan from tonight, extending its influence to Jamshoro and Dadu on April 18.

This weather system is likely to bring rain to various districts including Nowshera Feroze, Hyderabad, Dadu, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Sajawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umarkot, and surrounding areas.

According to PDMA, Karachi division under the influence of this system is likely to receive light to moderate thundershowers and heavy rain at some places on the night of April 17 and April 18.

Heavy Rains, Winds in Punjab from April 18 to 21

Following Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz’s directives, various departments including Health, Irrigation, Construction and Communication, Local Government, Livestock, Information, WASA, Punjab Police, and Civil Defense have been placed on high alert in response to the weather conditions.

The Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (DGPDMA) stated in a press release that a 24/7 active control room has been established to provide assistance to residents in low-lying areas, with a reminder for those residing near rivers and streams to take necessary precautions.

Emphasizing the importance of proactive measures to prevent loss of life and property, the DGPDMA stressed that the Chief Minister’s directives must be strictly adhered to, with zero tolerance for negligence or irresponsibility.

The Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (DG PDMA) emphasized that safeguarding the lives and property of citizens remains the department’s foremost priority.

He stressed that taking preventive measures is crucial for minimizing damage during stormy rains. The DG PDMA highlighted that citizens have been duly informed about the forthcoming weather conditions through various media channels including print, electronic, and social media platforms.

Irfan Ali Kathia noted that the district administration, rescue organizations, and PDMA helpline are operational round-the-clock, urging citizens to reach out to PDMA’s helpline 1129 or Rescue 1122 in case of emergencies.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Punjab Nabil Javed instructed administration officials across the province to stay vigilant, emphasizing the immediate removal of obstacles in rivers and canals, and ensuring readiness of rescue organizations for any potential emergency.

The Relief Commissioner underscored the importance of mutual cooperation among all organizations in combating natural calamities.

Met Office Prediction 

The Meteorological Department reported that the plains of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Karachi are expected to experience partly cloudy conditions today. Rain is likely in the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Abbottabad, with the possibility of snowfall in higher elevations.

Rainfall measurements indicate 200 mm in Mohmand Agency, 86 mm in Landi Kotal and Saidu Sharif, 83 mm in Timargarh, 75 mm in Dir, 43 mm in Peshawar, 8 inches in Chitral, and 3 inches in Malam Jabba in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Temperature readings provided by the Meteorological Department show a minimum of 18 degrees Celsius in Quetta, 15 degrees Celsius in Kalat, 30 degrees Celsius in Sibi, and 31 degrees Celsius in Turbat.

Furthermore, coastal areas such as Jiwani and Gwadar in Balochistan recorded temperatures of 29 and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively, according to the Meteorological Department.
