Rain, Thunderstorms Likely in Karachi, Other Parts from Feb 16–17

Islamabad: A shallow westerly weather system is expected to bring rain, gusty and dust-raising winds to parts of Sindh, including Karachi, on February 16–17, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Saturday.
According to the Met Office, rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms is forecast in several regions of the country during the two-day period. There is also a possibility of isolated hailstorms in northern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan and Punjab’s Dera Ghazi Khan, which could cause damage to crops and vulnerable structures.
In Balochistan, light to moderate rain with strong winds and thunderstorms is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chaghi, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Mastung, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Khuzdar, Kech, Turbat, Panjgur, Gwadar, Awaran, Kharan, Pasni, Ormara and Lasbela from the evening or night of February 16 through February 17, with occasional breaks.

The weather system is likely to reach Sindh on February 17, bringing rain and gusty, dust-raising winds to Dadu, Hyderabad, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad and Khairpur.
In southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected in Waziristan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Kurram from the night of February 16 to February 17.
Meanwhile, isolated light rain or drizzle along with strong winds may occur in parts of southern Punjab, including Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah and Bahawalpur and adjoining areas on February 17.
The PMD has advised farmers to take precautionary measures to protect standing crops and urged the public to exercise caution during dust storms and heavy showers while following official weather updates.
Partly Cloudy Skies, Cold Conditions Persist in Lahore
Partly cloudy weather prevailed in Lahore on Saturday, with improved air quality compared to previous days, while similar conditions are expected to continue over the next 24 hours.

Officials of the Pakistan Meteorological Department said continental air continued to dominate most parts of the country during the past 24 hours. Mainly cold and dry weather is expected to persist across most regions, while hilly areas are likely to experience very cold conditions during morning and night hours.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded in Leh at minus eight degrees Celsius, while Lahore’s minimum temperature was recorded at 12°C.
Lahore AQI at 163, Air Quality Remains ‘Unhealthy’
LAHORE: The city’s air quality remained at concerning levels on Saturday, with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 163, placing it in the “unhealthy” category.
The concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was measured at 14.6 times higher than the annual guideline value recommended by the World Health Organization, indicating that air quality continues to remain far from safe standards despite occasional fluctuations in pollution levels.
Authorities have advised residents, particularly children, the elderly and those with respiratory conditions, to limit prolonged outdoor exposure during periods of elevated pollution.
