Rain, Snow in Northern Pakistan, Dense Fog in Plains

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and snowfall in the mountainous regions of upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, North Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjacent hilly areas over the coming days.
Moderate to dense fog is expected to persist in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during morning and night hours, creating visibility challenges.
According to the PMD, a frontal weather system currently affecting the upper parts of the country is expected to last until January 6.
Over the past 24 hours, cold and partly cloudy weather prevailed across most regions, with particularly harsh conditions in the hilly areas.
Rain accompanied by snowfall was reported in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, North Balochistan, Murree, and surrounding regions. Dense fog continued to blanket most districts of Punjab and upper Sindh.
Rainfall and Snowfall Highlights
Rainfall: The highest recorded rainfall was 20 mm in Mir Khani (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), followed by 12 mm in Upper Dir, and 5 mm in Dalbandin (Balochistan).
Snowfall: Snowfall measured 7 inches in Kalam, 3 inches in Astore, and 1 inch in Gopis and Chitral.

The coldest regions included:
Skardu and Gupis: -9°C
Leh: -8°C
Astore: -5°C
The PMD advises caution during travel in fog-prone areas and urges residents in affected regions to prepare for colder conditions in the coming days.
