Rain Halts Australia-Afghanistan Clash at Gaddafi Stadium
News Desk
Lahore: A heavy downpour halted the Australia-Afghanistan match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at Gaddafi Stadium late Friday evening.
Earlier, Afghanistan posted a total of 273 runs before being bowled out, setting Australia a target of 274 to qualify for the semi-finals. Australia had reached 109-1 in 12.5 overs when rain interrupted play.
Under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, the par score at this stage was 56, meaning Australia were 53 runs ahead of Afghanistan.
However, for the DLS calculation to come into effect, a minimum of 20 overs must be completed in Australia’s innings.
The rain delay has dampened Afghanistan’s hopes of securing their first-ever semi-final spot in an ICC event, as they await further updates on the match’s resumption.
