Colombo:  The opening fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight between Pakistan and New Zealand was abandoned due to rain, with both teams awarded one point each.

Pakistan captain Salman Agha had won the toss and elected to bat first, but the match was washed out shortly afterward as covers were deployed on the pitch.

Both teams are part of Group 2, along with England and co-hosts Sri Lanka. All Group 2 matches will be played across venues in Sri Lanka.

The washout sets up a competitive group stage, where every point will be crucial in the race to advance to the semifinals.
