Islamabad: Alumni of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad—Pakistan’s top-ranked and internationally recognized higher education institution—have issued an urgent appeal for immediate financial support to address the university’s deepening budgetary crisis.

In a joint statement, the alumni urged the President of Pakistan (as Chancellor of QAU), the Prime Minister (as Controlling Authority of the Higher Education Commission), and the Federal Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training (as Pro-Chancellor) to approve a special bailout package worth PKR 5 billion to overcome the university’s financial shortfall.

QAU, a symbol of academic excellence and a premier institution of higher learning, is currently grappling with a critical financial crunch that threatens its ability to sustain essential academic functions, research output, and student support services.

“The financial deficit poses a serious risk to the university’s infrastructure, academic integrity, and long-term development,” a representative of the alumni community said. “This is a defining moment to reaffirm our collective commitment to quality education and protect a national institution of pride.”

The alumni also acknowledged and supported the efforts of the QAU Coordination Council for consistently highlighting the urgency of the situation and working toward long-term, sustainable solutions.

They stressed that in order for Pakistan to remain competitive in the global landscape of science, research, and innovation, it is imperative to preserve and strengthen institutions like QAU.

“The time to act is now,” the statement concluded.
