Punjab University Achieves Record QS Rankings Across 19 Subjects

Lahore: The QS ranking is highly regarded in academic circles worldwide for its thorough analysis of higher education institutions.

Recently, the QS team conducted a comprehensive assessment, evaluating the reputation and research output of nearly 5,000 universities worldwide. This resulted in the ranking of 1,561 institutions across 5 broad subject areas and 55 narrow subject areas.

The University of the Punjab has achieved significant recognition in this ranking, with a total of 19 subjects being ranked. This marks the first time that such a wide array of subjects taught at the University of the Punjab have received QS rankings, according to a spokesperson from PU.

Notably, the subject of Library and Information Management has secured a ranking in the range of 50-70 globally. This achievement represents the first time any subject taught at the University of the Punjab has attained such a high ranking.

Additionally, various other subjects at the University have been ranked, including Petroleum Engineering (101-150), Languages (251-300), Linguistics (301-320), Mathematics (301-350), Pharmacy (301-350), Agriculture & Forestry (351-400), Physics & Astronomy (351-400), Engineering & Technology (392), Chemical Engineering (401-430), Chemistry (401-450), Business and Management Studies (401-450), Economics and econometrics (401-450), Natural Sciences (451-500), Computer Science & Information Systems (451-500), Environmental Sciences (451-500), Social Sciences & Management (501-550), Biological Sciences (501-550), and Medicine (551-600).

Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood, has extended his congratulations to the faculty members, students, and staff for this significant improvement in the University’s ranking.

He attributes this success to the satisfaction of renowned academics and employers, the continuous increase in Scopus indexed research publications, citations, and H-index. Furthermore, he highlights improvements in faculty-student ratio, an increase in international faculty and students, and collaborative research efforts with international academics focusing on Pakistan’s socioeconomic issues as factors contributing to the University’s enhanced ranking.

The Vice Chancellor also commended the efforts of the University ranking committee, led by its chairman, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Usman Awan, and comprised of young professors.

Dr Awan expressed confidence that with significant funding from the newly elected government, the University of the Punjab has the potential to lead Pakistani universities in the global higher education landscape in the coming years.
