Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Punjab government have partnered to address Islamabad’s water scarcity issue.

A meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of CDA Chief Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The Secretary Irrigation Punjab joined the meeting via Zoom. The discussions focused on utilizing excess water from Rawal Dam to alleviate the water shortage in the capital.

The panel reviewed a proposal to supply 2 million gallons of water per day from Rawal Dam to Islamabad, a request that CDA had made to the Punjab government two years ago.

The CDA’s Water Management Wing and Punjab Small Dam teams will work together to finalize the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for this water supply, with final approval contingent on the decision regarding the supply procedure.

Additionally, the meeting addressed efforts to combat pollution in Rawal Dam to ensure a sustainable solution to Islamabad’s water needs.
