Islamabad: Authorities in 10 countries, including the UK and several in Europe, have sought assistance from the Punjab police following reports that some criminals from Punjab obtained fake character certificates to secure visas, according to a private news channel on Wednesday.
Police sources revealed that when the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) office checked the records of these individuals, their character certificates were found to be forged. Investigations indicated that the certificates were altered with the involvement of certain police officials.
Sources reported that an initial review uncovered 43 fake certificates issued by police in various districts of Punjab, including Lahore. Punjab IGP Dr Usman Anwar has vowed action against the criminals and against any police personnel involved in facilitating these forgeries.
