Punjab Govt Considers Week-Long Closure of Schools in Flood-Hit Areas
News Desk
Lahore: The Punjab government is weighing the option of closing schools for one week in districts severely affected by floods, officials said on Friday.
The proposal was discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) committee room. The meeting also decided to deploy additional administrative officers to assist local authorities in flood-affected areas.
Officials noted that many educational institutions in these districts are currently serving as temporary shelters for displaced families. Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said schools are providing not only refuge but also much-needed relief to those uprooted by the floods.
He added that the government’s priority is the safety of citizens and the well-being of students, emphasizing that education services will resume as soon as conditions improve.
