Punjab Govt Announces Ban on Plastic Bags from June 5

Islamabad: The government has announced a ban on sale and purchase of plastic bags across Punjab from June 5.

The decision was taken during a meeting held under the chairmanship of Senior Minister of Punjab, Maryam Aurangzeb. 

In her remarks, she said that the Chief Minister of Punjab has given approval to ban plastic bags.

Aurangzeb said that “Earth Day” will be celebrated on April 22 and the “No Plastic” campaign will be launched. We will ensure a complete ban on production, delivery and use of plastic bags. People should not use plastic bags to protect themselves from cancer, the senior minister advised.

She advocated for the use of cloth and paper bags, urging everyone, including shopkeepers, to support the campaign against plastic bags and other plastic items.

Emphasizing that environmental improvement is crucial for survival, she stressed the urgency of the matter.

During the meeting, it was decided that authorities would enforce a ban on plastic bag usage, conduct special lectures and training workshops for students and educational institutions, and raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic on human health.
