Lahore: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has ramped up inspections of fish frying establishments across the province to ensure quality standards, imposing fines exceeding Rs 3.8 million on 280 violators.

Led by PFA Director General Asim Javed, the campaign inspected 1,529 fish frying points, shutting down three for using rancid oil and unhygienic practices. Over 630 liters of recycled oil and one maund of spoiled fish were seized and destroyed during the operation.

Notices were issued to 1,080 establishments to improve standards, while inspections extended across districts, including 168 points in Lahore, 166 in Rawalpindi, and 216 in Gujranwala. Similar actions were carried out in Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Multan, and Bahawalpur.

Asim Javed highlighted severe violations such as storing fish in chemically treated drums and using recycled oil, emphasizing these practices posed significant health risks. “Such actions will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he warned, vowing continued efforts to safeguard public health.
