Punjab Dengue Outbreak: 87 Cases Reported, 5 in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: Over the past 24 hours, Punjab has recorded 87 new cases of dengue fever, with Rawalpindi alone registering five fresh cases, escalating the confirmed count in the province.
District Coordinator for Epidemics Prevention and Control (DCEPC), Dr Sajjad Mehmood, disclosed that two cases originated from the Metropolitan Corporation Rawalpindi, with one each reported from Gujjar Khan, Kahutta, and Potohar town urban areas.
Currently, the district hospitals accommodate 23 patients, among whom 12 cases have been confirmed, while 2,672 individuals have been discharged post-treatment.
In the ongoing indoor surveillance efforts, teams inspected 565 houses, discovering larvae in 19 homes. Similarly, outdoor surveillance efforts across 542 locations identified larvae at five sites.
Meanwhile, the province continues to grapple with the dengue virus, with a cumulative total of 14,258 confirmed cases. Lahore leads the count with 6,494 cases, followed by Rawalpindi with 2,626, Gujranwala with 1,512, Multan with 1,365, and Faisalabad with 842 cases.
The latest reports indicate 44 new cases in Lahore, two in Rawalpindi, 20 in Gujranwala, five in Multan, and 13 in Faisalabad. Furthermore, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, and Jhang each reported one case within the 24-hour period. Presently, 94 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals, with 53 in Lahore district hospitals.
Health Secretary Ali Jaan Khan emphasizes the criticality of maintaining clean surroundings and urges citizens to collaborate with health teams battling the outbreak. For dengue-related concerns or assistance, a toll-free helpline is accessible at 1033.
