Punjab Braces for Heavy Rains, Flood Alerts Issued

News Desk

Islamabad: The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast widespread monsoon rains across most districts of the province as the fourth spell of the season intensifies.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, this phase of rainfall is expected to continue until July 25 and is anticipated to be more severe than the previous spells. The rains are likely to cause a significant rise in water levels in the upper catchment areas of rivers.

Flood alerts have been issued for rivers and streams throughout Punjab, with potential flooding expected in the Ravi, Jhelum, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers.

In response, the PDMA Director General has instructed all Deputy Commissioners to remain in the field and strictly enforce Section 144 around riverbanks and streams. Punjab Police has also been directed to ramp up patrolling efforts in vulnerable areas to help prevent emergencies.
