PTI Shahryar Challenges Allotment of Election Symbol

Peshawar: PTI candidate Shehryar Afridi has filed a legal challenge against the allotment of an arbitrary election symbol by the returning officer in the Peshawar High Court.

In his petition, Afridi contends that the Election Commission assigned the random symbol of a “bottle” without consulting him. Despite numerous attempts to communicate with the Returning Officer, there was no response.

The petition argues that Shehryar Afridi, a former federal minister and ex-member of the national assembly, deserves priority in the assignment of election symbols. The Election Commission, District Returning Officer, and Returning Officer are listed as respondents in the petition.

Meanwhile, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim of the Peshawar High Court extended the pre-arrest bail for three PTI leaders—Aftab Alam, Dawood Shah, and Shafiullah—until January 29. The petitioners’ lawyer stated that Aftab Alam is a candidate for PK 90, Dawood Shah for PK 91, and Shafiullah for PK 92 in the upcoming elections.

The lawyer also noted that six cases have been lodged against them for organizing a convention in Kohat on December 10.
