PTI Not to Be Allowed to Hold Rally at Bagh-e-Jinnah: Raja Ansari

News Desk

Karachi: Spokesperson for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Sindh Affairs, Barrister Raja Khaliq-uz-Zaman Ansari, on Saturday urged the Sindh government to revoke permission granted to PTI for holding a public gathering at Bagh-e-Jinnah on Sunday, calling it unacceptable to allow a party with an “anti-state narrative” to organize a rally.

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, Barrister Ansari criticized PTI for allegedly labeling a military operation as “hooliganism,” saying such statements amounted to a betrayal of the constitutional oath and the state of Pakistan.

He warned that permitting rallies by supporters of terrorists could set a dangerous precedent, allowing criminals, including riverine dacoits, to demand similar permissions.

He claimed that a recent PTI rally in Karachi, which lasted nearly six hours and involved fewer than 500 participants, had largely consisted of non-local individuals, including Afghan nationals, and that local residents had rejected the event by not attending.

Barrister Ansari also criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister for allegedly calling other parties’ mandates “fake,” saying such remarks disrespected voters across Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan. He emphasized that after taking oath, loyalty to the Constitution and respect for the public mandate should be a top priority.

He appealed to the Sindh government, President Asif Ali Zardari, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to prevent PTI from holding the rally, stating there was no difference between those promoting an anti-state agenda and criminal elements.

Addressing traffic disruption during the previous rally on Shahrah-e-Faisal, he questioned the Traffic Police for not issuing e-challans against participants who allegedly violated traffic laws, asking: “Are traffic laws only meant for the poor?”

On dialogue with PTI, Barrister Ansari said the federal government remained open to negotiations with constitutional forces, but warned that PTI elements allegedly facilitating terrorism would face a “grand operation.” He added that the Prime Minister’s offer for dialogue was only for those respecting the Constitution.

He also hinted at the imminent appointment of a new Governor of Sindh from Pakistan Muslim League-N, calling it “good news” for the people of the province.

Senior PML-N leaders, including Sindh Vice President Ghulam Sarwar Tanio, Additional General Secretary Zubair Butt, and Youth Wing Malir President Afzal Khan, were present at the press conference.
