PTI Champions Hazara Province, ANP Stands in the Way

Peshawar: The Awami National Party (ANP) on Monday opposed the PTI resolution regarding the creation of Hazara province in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

During the Assembly session, ANP parliamentary leader Arbab Usman questioned the resolution, asking who would benefit from the establishment of Hazara province. He emphasized that this important issue should be thoroughly debated in the KP Assembly.

“The creation of the province will harm everyone. Those who supported the establishment of Hazara were not appreciated by the public. Our party has never been in favor of it,” he said.

Speaker Babar Salim Swati stated that the proceedings already carried out in the House would not be re-debated and that the issue should not be used for political point-scoring. He noted that the resolution was passed unanimously and cautioned against attempts to make it controversial.

MPA Shah Jehan, on a point of order, said that any decisions regarding the province would be made in consultation with the members. He highlighted the proper constitutional procedure for creating a province, adding: “We speak for the benefit of the country. Hazara is the most peaceful division. The more provinces are created, the stronger the federation will become, and public issues will be resolved at the grassroots level.”

He further argued that administrative facilities cannot adequately reach areas like Kohistan, making the creation of a province necessary to manage administrative affairs effectively, and suggested supporting the resolution.

The Speaker concluded that it would be better to discuss the issue at an appropriate time.
