Lahore: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has unveiled a new security system aimed at preventing WhatsApp account hacking, officials said on Monday.

The system, named ‘Meta OTP’, introduces a double One-Time Password (OTP) mechanism to enhance account protection.

If the first OTP is intercepted by hackers, a second OTP is automatically issued after three minutes, ensuring additional security for users.

PTA sources said the feature will also allow users a new option to regain access to their accounts in case the OTP is leaked, potentially reducing online fraud incidents significantly.

According to officials, Meta will be the first platform to roll out this enhanced security feature in Pakistan following agreements between the PTA and the social media giant.
