PTA Continues Crackdown On Illegal Issuance Of SIMs

Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office in Lahore, in partnership with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, Lahore, recently conducted a successful raid on a Ufone franchisee in Burewala.
According to a PTA news release, the franchisee was found to be illegally issuing SIM cards. During the operation, authorities discovered 14 active SIMs, 25 suspicious SIMs, 5 BVS devices, and 3 mobile phones, all of which were confiscated as evidence.
Two retailers were arrested on-site, and an FIR has been filed by the agency. The FIA Cyber Crime Circle is continuing its investigation into the matter. This action followed a complaint from the PTA regarding the illegal activation of SIMs through this sales channel.
This crackdown is part of the PTA’s ongoing efforts to combat the illegal issuance of SIMs, reflecting the Authority’s commitment to addressing this issue.
