Abuja: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle embarked on a visit to Nigeria on Friday as part of their efforts to promote the Invictus Games, the sporting event Harry established for wounded military veterans.

Arriving in the capital Abuja, they commenced their visit by attending a mental health event at a school, where they interacted with students and met with injured Nigerian soldiers.

Welcomed by a vibrant display of drumming and dancing from the Igbo ethnic community, Harry and Meghan toured the Lightway Academy, where they received a warm reception from enthusiastic students.

“Remember, mental health impacts everyone,” Harry emphasized to the students, sporting a traditional Nigerian bead necklace. “Speaking openly about it helps break down stigma.”

Meghan, identifying with Nigerian heritage, joined Harry, the Duke of Sussex, on stage, earning applause as she expressed solidarity with the children. Afterward, they proceeded to meet with Nigerian military leaders as part of the Invictus program.

As they departed, bidding farewell to the excited pupils gathered outside the academy, one student, Nnena Edeh, 13, shared her enthusiasm, saying, “It was amazing. I just wanted to reach out and touch him. Truly inspiring.”

Earlier in the week, Prince Harry had been in London to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Like his previous visits to the UK since relocating to the United States in 2020, this trip sparked speculation about a potential reconciliation with his family.
