Pre-Monsoon Rains Spell Most Likely From Sunday In KP: PMD

News Desk

Peshawar: The Met Office on Friday projected pre-monsoon rains and strong winds in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) from June 25 to 30 which would reduce the current heat wave in the region.

Meanwhile, very hot and humid weather is predicted over most districts of KP; however, rain, wind, and thunderstorms are likely to occur over isolated places in Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Kohistan, Shangla, Swat, Buner, and Dir Districts.

Isolated dust-raising winds and dust storms are likely to occur in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Tank, Karak, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, and Swabi districts in the afternoon and evening.

Following the forecast of the Met Office, the provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) instructed all the district administrations to take precautionary measures in view of rain with thunder and strong winds.

In addition, PDMA instructed to continuously monitor rain and urban flooding as well as ensure the availability of small and heavy machinery to handle any emergency scenario and relocate residents of risky areas to safe waiting locations.

The authority requested that all concerned line departments and district administrations be alert and issue warnings to travellers and locals in sensitive highland areas as well as along provincial and federal highways in sensitive zones.

The authority further added that PDMA’s Emergency Operation Centre is fully functional and the public can contact helpline 1700 for information and guidance.
