PPP Babar for Inclusive Laws to Combat Injustice Against Harassment Victims

Islamabad: It’s a profound injustice when victims are left to suffer without support from society. The first step towards rectifying this is to elevate the standards of laws, initially designed for workplaces, to encompass educational institutions as well, said PPP Senior Leader Farhatullah Babar.
Highlighting the pivotal role of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in addressing harassment issues, he underscores the need to fortify the moral fabric of society, advocating for measures that empower citizens and combat injustices like harassment.
He was speaking at a seminar organized by Shaheed Bhutto Organization (SBF) in collaboration with Pakistan Human Resource Network (PHRN) at the School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR) in Quaid-i-Azam University on Thursday.
Asif Khan, addressing the session, emphasized that PPP has consistently championed women’s rights, with its legacy being led by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, who, as a woman, steadfastly defended the dignity of every harassed woman. In today’s modern era, he stressed the necessity of implementing further measures for women’s empowerment.
Mehr Jamy detailed the work of FOSPAH, highlighting how their organization aids numerous victims without charging any registration or legal fees. She explained that sessions can be conducted online, ensuring justice within ninety days while prioritizing the security and confidentiality of the victim.
Hifza Bukhari, speaking to the audience, stressed that it’s not solely the responsibility of the law but also of society to mature enough to recognize women’s true potential without resorting to domination.
Mian Zahid Sultan elaborated on the concept of a girl who, despite achieving distinction through hard work, faces harassment on her first day of employment. He emphasized the importance of companions supporting harassment victims rather than remaining bystanders.
