Police Seize 479 Unfit Public Transport Vehicles

Rawalpindi: On the instructions of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani, Rawalpindi district police have intensified their operation against unfit public service vehicles (PSVs) and have impounded 479 of them in addition to issuing 3607 challan slips.

According to Police Spokesperson, actions were taken against violators of the law in the past 17 days.
Over Rs 3.8 million were collected as fines by those who broke rules and regulations.

The police took stringent measures legally against unfit commercial vehicles. Under a special campaign initiated in this region, Rawalpindi district police were targeting unfit PSVs, checking route permits, and driver’s licenses.

Besides, 281 drivers were drawn up against for driving without licenses as well, he said.
Moreover, the licenses of 24 such drivers found guilty due to negligence were canceled, and there were also 34 cases registered against both drivers and owners of public service vehicles as well.

To ensure safe travel on PSVs, every possible step is being taken by him. According to Spokesman, vehicle travel times are also being monitored. He said that legal action would be taken against those who jeopardize public safety.

Those public service vehicle owners and bus terminal managers found guilty of negligence will face administrative measures, added Spokesperson.

Moreover, he revealed that the special team from the city traffic police is also dedicated to verifying vehicles in bus terminals. He also mentioned that an awareness campaign for citizens and vehicle drivers as well was started.
