Police, Rangers on High Alert as Heavy Rains Lash Karachi

Karachi: Authorities across Sindh, including Karachi, have been placed on high alert following heavy rains, with Sindh Police and Pakistan Rangers Sindh taking precautionary measures to ensure public safety and maintain traffic flow.
According to a Karachi Police spokesperson, Additional IGP Karachi Azad Khan has directed the deployment of additional police personnel across the city, particularly in low-lying areas and on major roads, to assist citizens during the ongoing rainfall.
Traffic police have been mobilised to regulate vehicular movement, while police patrols have been intensified to respond swiftly to emergencies.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Rangers Sindh has also been put on full alert across the province. A Rangers spokesperson said coordinated arrangements have been finalised, including the deployment of monitoring and rapid response teams in vulnerable and low-lying areas.
Rescue and assistance measures have been completed to address possible urban flooding, with close coordination established among relevant institutions. Rangers personnel are also assisting in security and traffic management at sensitive locations.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, exercise caution, especially in low-lying areas, and stay away from exposed electrical wires and installations. In case of emergencies, citizens have been advised to contact helpline 15 or nearby security personnel and rely only on verified information.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast one to two more spells of heavy rain in Karachi, with cloud systems currently over the sea expected to move towards the city. Rainfall may exceed 50 mm, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
Officials said wind speeds in northern areas of the city may be lower than those recorded a day earlier; however, strong gusts have already caused incidents such as falling billboards.
Intermittent rain continues in various parts of Karachi. The death toll from rain-related incidents has risen to 19, while at least 60 people have been injured due to collapsing roofs and walls and have been shifted to hospitals.
Rain accompanied by strong winds also triggered fires in different parts of the city.
Heavy rainfall has been reported in North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Surjani, Federal B Area, Saddar, Airport, Defence, Clifton, Cantt, Railway Colony, Delhi Colony, Gulshan-e-Jamal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Garden, Model Colony and Malir.
Wind speeds reached 64 km/h near Karachi Airport, 90 km/h on Shara-e-Faisal, and 97 km/h in Maripur.
Strong winds uprooted trees near the High Court and Karachi Press Club, while a billboard collapsed on Tipu Sultan Road in Muhammad Ali Society. Another tree fell near the Clifton Driving Licence Branch, trapping two people, with rescue efforts underway.
Power outages were also reported in several areas, including Defence Phases I and II, Akhtar Colony, Kashmir Colony, and parts of North Karachi, including Moinabad and Alamgir Society.
Officials reiterated that all necessary measures are in place to ensure public safety amid the prevailing weather conditions.
