Police Officers Under Investigation for Extortion Attempt

Layyah: District Police Officer (DPO) Layyah, Muhammad Ali Waseem, has ordered an inquiry into an alleged extortion attempt by police officers following a complaint from a local trader.

According to the complainant, Rafiq, a private writer at the city police station, Roshan Zameer, summoned him to the station and falsely accused him of various offenses. Zameer allegedly demanded Rs 200,000 on behalf of the Station House Officer (SHO). Later, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) joined the negotiation, and the amount was settled at Rs 112,000.

The matter came to light after representatives of Anjuman Tajran intervened and reported it to the DPO, who directed the SP Investigations to conduct an inquiry against the SHO and ASI and submit a report.
