Peshawar: Kohat police on Friday announced the arrest of two suspects in the murder of a lady doctor, claiming the case was solved through a technology-driven investigation carried out under challenging security conditions.

Dr. Mahwish was shot dead near Usman Mosque, close to KDA Hospital, at around 8:05 pm on February 22. Her husband, Muhammad Hasnain, had initially informed police that the family had no known enmity with anyone.

Taking strict notice of the incident, senior provincial authorities, including Inspector General KP Police Zulfiqar Hameed and Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, directed law enforcement agencies to ensure the swift arrest of those involved.

District Police Officer Kohat Shehbaz Elahi formed special investigation teams comprising senior officers and investigation staff.

The teams conducted intelligence-based raids at multiple locations and utilized modern forensic tools and human intelligence to trace the suspects.

Police said the murder weapon, along with a motorcycle and a rickshaw allegedly used in the crime, had been recovered.

According to investigators, the accused, identified as Hayat Gul and Saif Ali, residents of Ghamkol Camp, were arrested during coordinated raids in Ghamkol No. 3.

Initial interrogation suggested that a verbal dispute between one of the suspects and the doctor escalated into the fatal shooting.

Officials described the case as highly sensitive, noting that the district was simultaneously grappling with serious security challenges, including a recent terrorist attack in which a DSP and five other police personnel were martyred.

Police said further investigation was under way and that a comprehensive, evidence-based challan would be submitted in court to ensure exemplary punishment for the accused.
