PNCA Stages Play on Challenges of PWDs

Islamabad: The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) staged  a play titled “Hum Kar Saktay Hain,” which focused on the difficulties and daily life of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

The play centres on the struggles a young girl with handicap challenges encountered at various points in her life, as well as how meeting other people with disabilities and learning about their accomplishments inspired her to help others in a similar situation.

It also emphasised how society views people with impairments and the obstacles to their social inclusion.

The play is a part of a string of street theatre performances by PNCA to draw attention to problems involving the environment, social difficulties, and people with disabilities.

The play’s actors received training in a three-week theatre workshop that was organised by Pak Women, Christoffel-Blindenmission Christian Blind Mission e.V(CBM), and Human and Social Development in partnership with PNCA to help young adults with and without disabilities in a few low-income Rawalpindi and Islamabad neighbourhoods have better access to income-generating activities.

By telling various stories, the street theatre attempts to raise awareness about the rights of PWDs. The workshop’s several sessions educated aspiring actors and fans of performing arts on both the theoretical and practical aspects of acting.

“Senior artists and theatre professionals, as well as PNCA, assist in promoting street theatre and offering institutional support to Pakistan’s theatre lovers,” said PNCA Program Organizer and Mentor Waqar Azeem.

He further stated that the goal of the acting course is to harness young people’s energy and provide a platform for their innate talents. It is an effort to develop the talent of participants as well as to discover the potential of aspiring and amateur artists for promoting and conserving the rich culture of the nation.

“The play focuses on emphasising and resolving societal difficulties as well as bringing correction to society through artistic expressions, in addition to revitalising the idea of theatre in the twin cities with the subject of encouraging peace, love, and harmony,” stated Mentor Waqar Azeem.
