PMD Warns of Snowfall, Flash Floods from Jan 31 to Feb 4

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast for moderate to heavy rain and snowfall across the country from January 31 to February 4, with the possibility of flash floods in Balochistan due to heavy rain.
A westerly wave is expected to persist in the country during this period, affecting various regions, including Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
In Balochistan, heavy rainfall and snowfall are expected in several cities, including Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Chagi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara, Panjgur, Kharan, Noushki, Washuk, Mastung, Sibbi, Naseerabad, Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, JhalMagsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Quetta, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, and Qila Saifullah on February 2–3.
In Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir, moderate to heavy rain and snowfall are expected in various areas, including Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur, from January 31 to February 4, with occasional breaks.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will experience moderate to heavy rain and snowfall over the hills in cities such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Karak, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan from January 31 to February 4, with occasional breaks.
In Punjab and Islamabad, moderate to heavy rain and snowfall are expected in Murree and Galliyat from January 31 to February 01 and February 03 and 04, with occasional breaks. Light to moderate rain is expected in other parts of the region during different periods.

Sindh will experience light to moderate rain in various cities, including Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jacobabad, and Kashmore on February 02 and 03, while other parts of the province will have cold and partly cloudy weather.
The PMD advises caution as heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in certain areas of Balochistan, and landslides and road closures are possible in the hilly regions from January 31 to February 1.
Tourists are urged to remain vigilant during this period, and the rain is expected to be beneficial for crops, especially in Barani areas of Punjab and KP.
Foggy conditions are anticipated to subside significantly during the forecast period, and all concerned authorities are urged to remain alert and take necessary measures to prevent any untoward situations.
