Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that August 2025 brought slightly above-normal rainfall and higher-than-usual temperatures across the country.

In its monthly climate summary released on Sunday, the PMD stated that Pakistan received 82.5 millimeters of rain during the month—1.1 percent higher than the long-term average. The national mean temperature stood at 30.44°C, also above normal. Daytime temperatures averaged 36.17°C, while nighttime averaged 25.06°C.

Extreme weather events were recorded across different regions. Dadu marked the hottest day of the month with 45.6°C on August 8, while Skardu experienced the coolest day at 17.5°C on August 3. Bagrot in Gilgit-Baltistan saw the coldest night at 10.5°C on August 14, whereas Gilgit reported the warmest night at 27.5°C on August 18.

Sahiwal stood out for heavy monsoon activity, receiving the heaviest single-day downpour of 340.5 millimeters on August 27 and recording the highest monthly total of 750.8 millimeters.

The PMD attributed the weather patterns to persistent monsoon currents entering the country from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. A strong monsoon spell particularly affected Sindh and Balochistan, while northwestern Balochistan received additional rainfall under the influence of a prevailing low-pressure system.
