PMD Issues Weather Outlook for Coming Days
News Desk
Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday forecast that dry weather, accompanied by rising temperatures, is likely to persist across most plains of the country in the coming days.
The country is already experiencing abnormally high temperatures and dry conditions in many areas.
According to the PMD, no significant rainfall is expected in the plains, while daytime temperatures are likely to gradually rise across the country during the coming week.
Daytime temperatures are expected to remain 6–8°C above normal in the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, and northern Balochistan.
In southern Balochistan and Sindh, temperatures are projected to stay 5–7°C above normal, with night temperatures also expected to increase.
Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy weather with chances of light to moderate rain, wind, and thunderstorms is forecast for several districts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kurram, Khyber, Mohmand, Kohistan, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Malakand, as well as in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir on March 6–7 and again from March 9–11, with occasional gaps.
Rain, wind, and thunderstorms may also affect Islamabad, the Pothohar region, Murree, Galliyat, and adjoining areas on March 10–11.
The PMD warned that the prolonged dry spell could place severe stress on water resources and seasonal crops, particularly wheat in rain-fed areas. Rising temperatures could further increase evaporation and water demand across the country.
Farmers are advised to ensure timely irrigation where possible, use water resources judiciously, and manage crops in line with prevailing weather conditions.
The general public and relevant authorities have also been urged to take measures to manage water resources and mitigate potential impacts on agriculture.
