PMD Forecasts Rain, Snowfall Across Pakistan from Feb 19-

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast for rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall across various regions of the country from February 19 to 21, ending a prolonged dry spell.
A frontal weather system is expected to impact northern areas starting February 19 and continue through February 21.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall are predicted in the mountainous regions, including Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, Shigar, and parts of Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, and surrounding areas on February 19-20.
Additionally, similar conditions are anticipated in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, and various districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the tribal areas.
In Punjab and Islamabad, rain with thunderstorms and snowfall is expected in Murree and Galliyat from February 19-21, with lighter rain forecasted for areas like Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and surrounding cities.
In Balochistan, rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall are expected in areas such as Quetta, Ziarat, and Chaman on February 18-19, while Sindh will mostly experience dry weather with gusty winds along the coast.
The PMD has issued warnings about potential disruptions due to heavy snowfall, which may lead to road closures and slippery conditions, especially in hilly regions like Murree, Galliyat, and the northern areas.
The risk of landslides and avalanches in hilly areas is also significant, with authorities urging tourists to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel.

The rainfall is expected to benefit crops, particularly in the Barani areas of Punjab and Khyber- Pakhtunkhwa. Local authorities have been advised to stay alert and take necessary measures to prevent any accidents in the affected regions.
