PMD Forecasts Rain, Cooler Weather in Karachi

News Desk

Karachi:  Karachi is likely to experience a drop in temperatures as the season’s first winter rain approaches, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Friday.

According to the PMD, a western disturbance is expected to influence weather conditions in the coming days, bringing cooler temperatures to the city between Tuesday and Wednesday due to prevailing western winds.

The weather system is forecast to initially affect the upper parts of the country from December 28, with rainfall expected in Balochistan and adjoining areas on December 29.

Karachi is likely to receive rain on December 30, which is expected to be accompanied by a noticeable fall in temperatures, the department added.

Meanwhile, foggy conditions last week disrupted flight operations in the port city, forcing six international flights at Jinnah International Airport to be diverted to alternate destinations.

On December 21, the Pakistan Aviation Authority (PAA) said that some flights were diverted to Muscat, while another private airline flight was redirected to Islamabad due to restricted visibility.

The authority said flight diversions under low-visibility conditions are a routine safety measure.

The situation arose as dense fog reduced visibility to zero in several parts of Karachi, including along the M-9 Motorway.

Fog was also reported in multiple areas of the city, such as Northern Bypass, University Road, Karimabad, North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, II Chundrigar Road, Clifton, Defence, Surjani Town, Sohrab Goth and other localities.
