PM Shehbaz Reaches Washington for Gaza Peace Board
News Desk
Washington: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Washington on Wednesday to attend the inaugural session of the Gaza Board of Peace (BoP), a high-profile diplomatic initiative spearheaded by Donald Trump, as global attention shifts toward financing and securing post-war reconstruction in Gaza.
The summit, scheduled for Thursday, is expected to focus on mobilising up to $5 billion in contributions from Muslim-majority countries for the rehabilitation of the war-ravaged enclave. Pakistan is among the key supporters of the board, alongside several Muslim and non-Muslim states.
Diplomatic sources said the first formal meeting of the BoP since its formation in January will center on three broad objectives: consolidating the Gaza ceasefire, securing financial pledges for reconstruction, and shaping the framework of a proposed global peace forum envisioned by President Trump as a more agile alternative to existing international mechanisms.

The Washington session is also expected to deliberate on the creation of an International Stabilisation Force (ISF) for Gaza, aimed at ensuring security during the reconstruction phase. While details remain under wraps, the ISF proposal is being viewed as a potentially pivotal component in stabilising the region and preventing renewed conflict.
Prime Minister Shehbaz’s participation underscores Pakistan’s diplomatic positioning on the Gaza crisis, with Islamabad signaling readiness to contribute to collective Muslim-world efforts for humanitarian relief and rebuilding initiatives.
Despite the significance of the gathering, the board’s agenda and expected outcomes are being handled with strict confidentiality. No formal communique or policy blueprint has yet been made public, fueling speculation about the scope and operational structure of the proposed peace architecture.
The summit is being framed by its backers as a major diplomatic undertaking designed to coordinate global support for Gaza’s recovery and lay groundwork for longer-term regional stability.
Whether it can translate financial pledges and security proposals into concrete action, however, will likely determine its credibility in the weeks ahead.
