PM Shehbaz Misses All Sittings in NA’s 11th Session

Islamabad:A recent report by the Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) has revealed that 57 Members of the National Assembly (MNAs), or 18 percent, attended all eight sittings during the 11th session of the National Assembly, which took place from December 10 to December 19, 2024.

In contrast, 54 MNAs (17 percent) failed to attend any of the sittings. The report highlights that 53 percent of MNAs (166) skipped the sessions without formally applying for leave.

The session’s highest attendance was recorded at 203 MNAs (65 percent) during the first sitting, while the lowest was 150 (48 percent) in the final sitting.

Among the ministers, the Minister of Defence had the highest attendance at 63 percent, while the Prime Minister did not attend any sittings. The Leader of the Opposition attended six sittings (75 percent).

The report also noted that 257 MNAs (82 percent) missed at least one sitting, with 91 MNAs (35 percent) submitting formal leave applications.

Additionally, the absence of ministers prompted the Deputy Speaker to direct that the Prime Minister be notified of the situation through a letter. The Speaker warned that proceedings would be adjourned if ministers responsible for agenda items were absent.
