Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday departed for Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to attend the Gaza Peace Summit, being held on the special invitation of US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
The summit aims to finalize and sign the Gaza Peace Agreement, marking a major diplomatic effort toward achieving a ceasefire and establishing lasting peace in the war-torn enclave.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar as part of the official delegation.
During his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz will participate in the signing ceremony of the agreement, which will also be attended by President Donald Trump, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and several other prominent world leaders.
The summit represents the culmination of extensive diplomatic efforts led by President Trump, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Arab-Islamic leaders during the recent United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and promote regional stability.
In a joint declaration issued earlier, the participating nations, including Pakistan, endorsed President Trump’s plan for a Gaza ceasefire, sustainable peace, and regional development.
Prime Minister Shehbaz’s participation underscores Pakistan’s unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people and its commitment to extending all possible political and diplomatic assistance to them.
Pakistan hopes that the peace summit and the signing of the Gaza Peace Agreement will help end the ongoing hostilities, ensure the withdrawal of Israeli forces, guarantee the safe return of displaced Palestinians, secure the release of prisoners, and pave the way for reconstruction and stability in the region.
Islamabad remains optimistic that these developments will help realize the long-standing aspiration of durable peace in the Middle East and lead to the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, in line with UN resolutions and the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
