Playback Singer Mujeeb Alam Remembered

Islamabad: The renowned playback singer Mujeeb Alam is remembered on the occasion of his birthday and honoured for his contributions to the Pakistani film industry as a singer.
He was born on February 4, 1948, in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India in an Urdu-speaking family. His professional journey began with Radio Pakistan. His singing style was a mixture of Mehdi Hassan and Ahmad Rushdi’s styles.
Alam performed dozens of successful songs throughout his brief film career in the late 1960s and remained well-liked by moviegoers. He fell out of favour, nevertheless, as more adaptable vocalists like Akhlaq Ahmed and A. Nayyar entered the Pakistani cinema industry in the middle of the 1970s.
Career: In the middle of the 1960s, MujeebAlam was constantly surrounded by Pakistani singers who had achieved great success. However, he rapidly carved out a unique path for himself in the music industry. In essence, he had a great sense of humour. He enjoyed telling jokes and was kind to everyone.
Mujeeb’ssongs were picturised on film artists like Nadeem, WaheedMuradand Muhammad Ali. Some of his famous songs were “Main terayajnabishehr main”, “Main terashehrchhorjaonga”, “Main khushi se kionnagaoon, meradilbhigaarahahai”, and “Wohnaqabrukhulatkarmeraysamnaynaaain”.
The song which earned him real fame was “Wohmeraysamnaytasweerbanaybaithayhain”in filmChakoriin 1967. He won the Nigar Award for the song. He also sang songs in Bangla, Punjabi and Pushto languages, and has almost 12 audio albums to his credit.
Alamalso won a Nigar Award for a song about love for the mother, “Aye maanterisooratkayAagay” in film (Qulli).
Since 1979, MujeebAalam has stopped acting in movies. He once took part in musical performances and private shows that were broadcast on Pakistani television and other channels.
Mujeeb spent a considerable amount of time living in Block J, North Nazimabad, Karachi.He died at the age of 56 on June 2, 2004, in Karachi.
