Pink Toilets As Catalysts For Gender Equality in Punjab

Lahore: The Punjab government has launched the ‘Pink Toilets’ project in South Punjab to promote gender equality in government offices.
According to the sources, the project is being implemented in government offices across South Punjab, to provide a comfortable environment for working women in the public offices.
The initiative began at the South Punjab Secretariat under the guidance of Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab, Capt (retd). The foundation stone for the project was laid by Engineer Amjad Shoaib Khan Tareen, Secretary of Services South Punjab.
Secretary Services South Punjab Amjid Shoaib Tareen on the occasion that 433 toilets exclusively designed for working and visiting women are being constructed in government offices throughout the region. A survey was conducted to determine the optimal locations for these facilities.
Secretary Tareen said that letters were sent to the administrations of all three divisions instructing them to complete the ‘Pink Toilets’ project by November 9. Additional secretary coordination from the ACS office has been assigned as the focal person for overseeing the project.
South Punjab already had 450 separate women’s toilets within its government offices, and this project aligns with the broader action plan for gender equality, the secretary explained.
The project is seen as a significant step toward creating a more inclusive and accommodating environment for women in the workforce, fostering gender equality and social progress in South Punjab’s government offices, he hoped.
