Pindi Police Warn of Jail Time for Kite Flying

Rawalpindi: In an ongoing effort to curb kite flying, Rawalpindi district police have arrested two kite sellers and recovered over 400 kites along with multiple kite flying string rolls.
Additionally, awareness walks were organized in different areas to educate citizens on the dangers of kite flying and aerial firing.
According to a police spokesman, the operations were carried out on the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi, Syed Khalid Hamdani. Pirwadhai police apprehended a suspect, Shabbir, in possession of 400 kites and four kite flying string rolls.
Meanwhile, Waris Khan police arrested another kite seller, Rehan, recovering 20 kites and two string rolls. Separate cases have been registered against the accused, and further investigations are underway. SSP (Operations) Rawalpindi has instructed police teams to intensify actions against kite sellers and flyers.
To reinforce the crackdown, the police also conducted awareness walks in various areas under the jurisdiction of RA Bazar and Airport Police Stations.
These walks, led by SDPOs Civil Lines and Cantt, along with SHOs, saw participation from students, traders, and citizens. The initiative aimed to highlight the risks associated with kite flying and aerial firing. Special awareness pamphlets were distributed, and banners were displayed at key locations to educate the public.
CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani emphasized that kite flying is now a non-bailable offense following recent legal amendments. Offenders could face imprisonment ranging from three to seven years and fines between Rs 500,000 and Rs 5 million.
He reiterated that all available resources are being utilized to enforce the ban and urged parents to play a proactive role in discouraging their children from engaging in illegal activity.
The Rawalpindi district police remain committed to eradicating kite flying through strict enforcement and community engagement initiatives.
