Rawalpindi: In line with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision of “clean drinking water for all,” Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Aamir Khattak, has directed all deputy commissioners in the division to identify suitable sites for the installation of new water filtration plants.

Chairing a high-level meeting at his office on Thursday, the commissioner emphasized the need to expedite efforts to ensure access to clean drinking water across the region. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Coordination Syed Nazart Ali, Director Local Government Sibtain Kazmi, and officials from the Water and Sanitation Agency, Public Health Department, and other relevant bodies.

Commissioner Khattak stressed that new filtration plants should be set up in areas with the greatest need, ensuring maximum public benefit.

He also called for urgent attention to the water supply issues in Murree and instructed that delays in the construction and expansion of Rawalpindi’s Leh Nullah be resolved without further delay to ease urban flooding and sanitation problems in the twin cities.

He directed the deputy commissioners to personally visit potential sites and submit detailed recommendations within two days, including reports on the current condition of existing filtration plants.

“Clean drinking water is a basic necessity and a fundamental right of every citizen,” Commissioner Khattak stated. “The Punjab government is fully committed to addressing this issue, and all departments must work together to implement these projects swiftly and effectively.”

The initiative marks a significant step towards improving public health and ensuring environmental sustainability in Rawalpindi Division.
